Carlos Moedas: The EU will fund more social innovation because it’s the future of innovation

n 2014, the European Commission president Jean-Claude Junker described his ambition of Europe achieving a “social triple A rating” and giving greater prominence to the blocs social priorities. To achieve this ambition, socially focused innovators from across the continent have called on the European Union to put innovation at the heart of its strategy.

On November 6th 2018, the European commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation (Carlos Moedas) was presented with a set of 10 policy ideas for how the EU can promote social innovation, formerly known as The Lisbon Declaration.

Mr Moedas was quoted as saying that ‘In the European Union, we are going to put more money into social innovation, not because it’s trendy, but because we believe that the future of innovation is about social innovation.’
